The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, along with other California attractions, has been closed since March 13 due to the coronavirus. Tram officials announced this week it is moving its annual maintenance shutdown period from September to August. Maintenance includes replacing the lower haul rope, exchanging the carriage on cabin 2, as well as servicing the control systems and making upgrades. Tram officials hope that if the maintenance period is moved up, the tram may be able to re-open to the public by Labor Day, instead of October as originally scheduled. Officials stressed the tram has new safety protocols in place and is ready to open.
