PALM SPRINGS MAN SOUGHT IN YUCCA VALLEY SHOOTING

A Palm Springs man is wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Yucca Valley early Thursday morning. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Derek Garvin, Gary Clayton, 27, was visiting his girlfriend at her apartment in the 54600 block of 29 Palms Highway when they began to argue. Clayton left the apartment, and the argument continued through the apartment’s screen door. Garvin said when Clayton tried to re-enter the apartment, his girlfriend wouldn’t let him back in and shut the door. According to Garvin, Clayton then allegedly fired seven rounds from a 9-mm Luger through the front door and wall at 12:45 a.m. Luckily, none of the bullets hit the woman. Clayton then fled westbound on the highway, but his car got a flat tire near the Hi-Desert Gun Club. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate him or the gun. A report has been sent to the District Attorney’s office for an arrest warrant for Gary Clayton.
