Here in the United States, we observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day on the third Friday in September by remembering captured or missing military service members. The Palm Springs Air Museum is hosting two events to honor those who never made it home, and the spouses who fought for them. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
The Palm Springs Air Museum is hosting back-to-back public events to honor Vietnam veterans who were captured or never found, and the spouses who doggedly kept their memories alive. POW/MIA Recognition Night will be held on Friday, September 20, at 5:30 p.m. and begins with a prayer service. Dr. Dave Thompson will present along with Heath Lee, author of “The League of Wives: The Untold Story of the Women Who Took On the U.S. Government to Bring Their Husbands Home from Vietnam.” Lee will also be signing books during this social gathering of POWs, POW/MIA family members and donors.
Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served by LULU of Palm Springs. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members. To RSVP, call 760-482-1836.
On Saturday, September 21, at 1 p.m., Lee will co-lead a program with Taylor Stockdale, the son of Admiral James Stockdale, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor, and Sybil Stockdale, who helped organize the “League of Wives.” A panel discussion and book signing will follow.
The Palm Springs Air Museum is located at 745 North Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs.
