October is orchid month in the Morongo Basin. This weekend is an opportunity to experience displays of beautiful live orchids and much more at the 22nd annual Morongo Basin Orchid Festival at Gubler Orchids in Landers. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has an overview…
The annual Orchid Festival is about much more than the world-class judged orchid show, greenhouse tours every half hour offering acres of blooming orchids, and free orchid-growing classes for children and adults. It’s also about great food like burgers, dogs, barbeque, tacos at the Sunset Grill; live entertainment from the Yucca Valley High School Jazz Band, craft beers from Joshua Tree Brewery, and wine and cheese tasting to enjoy in the shaded Sunset Rotary Wine and Beer Garden. Then there’s mini-golf, a bounce house, vendors and booths showcasing community non-profits. The festival happens Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
