The Morongo Basin Orchid Festival October 7 and 8 isn’t just for orchid aficionados; classes can make the world of orchids blossom for anyone.
Youngsters can learn about orchid cultivation while making a mini-greenhouse from a plastic gallon container. Each child will receive a 3” orchid to bring home; the class is free. For those age 16 and up there are several classes. Work with dendrobium and oncidium orchids in the transplanting class then take one home. There is a $15 fee for the class, Cultivation and Care of Phalaenopsis Orchids, features the world’s most popular orchid. Participants will transplant and take home a beautiful bloom. The cost is $15. An orchid arrangement class teaches how to create and build an orchid planter; participants will take one home. The $25 fee includes two orchids, container, and growing and care instructions.
