In Theatre 29’s production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Harvey,” from left Kylie Robinson plays Myrtle Mae Simmons; Marissa Pennington plays Veta Louise Simmons, Kurt Schauppner is Elwood P. Dowd, and Janet Tucker is Ethel Chauvenet. The play runs at Theatre 29 through September 2.

The Pulitzer Prize winning comedy “Harvey” opened at Theatre 29 last Friday with a gala fundraiser hosted by the charity organization Reach Out Morongo Basin. To share the success of the event here’s Rebecca Havely…
Reach Out Morongo Basin Director Robin Schlosser said, “The opening night gala of ‘Harvey’ at Theatre 29 was a great success.” The charity’s board president Kurt Schauppner played the leading role in the comedy, and Schlosser said he and the entire cast delivered stellar performances.
The charity garnered $1,700 before expenses. Theater-goers were treated to delicious pre-show delicacies as well as delicious desserts at intermission. A silent auction helped raise funds as well, with the coveted golfing sports basket donated by Herman and Dina Platzke going to top bidder Anita Clinkscales, and a Joshua Tree plate donated by ArtFx & Furnishings was won by Anita Neu-Fultz.
The charity thanks both Theatre 29 and Director Eddie Tucker for the opportunity to host the highly enjoyable production. Of the funds raised at the gala opening night, $600 will go toward the neighbors-helping-neighbors programs and services.
“Harvey” will continue its run Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 through September 2. For tickets, visit theatre29.org or call the Theatre 29 Box Office at 760-361-4151.
