Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace. Californians under age 65 who do not qualify for Medicare and who do not get health insurance through their employer, should go through Covered California to get health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Open enrollment for 2018 new coverage in California runs from November 1 through January 31, 2018 (the period for renewals is through December 15, 2017). Covered California is the only place to get federal premium assistance on health insurance from participating health insurers. To see if you qualify for premium assistance, and for help determining what plan is right for you, go to CoveredCA.com. You may qualify for a discount on a health plan through Covered California, or get health insurance through the state’s Medi-Cal program. Learn more at CoveredCA.com.
