According to the Defense Department, women make up a small but growing number of veterans of each military branch. To help female vets deal with the emotional fallout of their service, an online retreat is being offered by Mil-Tree. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
Approximately 10 percent of the veteran population is female, the fastest-growing demographic in the US military. A free multi-day retreat entitled “Women’s Strength Through Culture and Gratitude” will be offered to female vets seeking solace from post-traumatic stress, military sexual trauma, military moral injury, and drug and alcohol abuse.
Designed to address the emotional and psychological scars—often called “the invisible wounds of war”—that can haunt a soldier’s mind, the event will offer a community experience by utilizing Native ceremonies and shared storytelling.
The retreat will be facilitated by three female tribal members, one of whom is a veteran. The online events will take place on two Fridays, October 30 and November 6, from 6 pm to 9 pm; Saturday mornings, October 31 and November 7, 9 am until noon; and on Tuesday, November 10, at 6 pm until 9 pm.
