ONE MAN KILLED IN CRASH ON HIGHWAY IN JOSHUA TREE

One person was killed in a head-on collision in Joshua Tree this morning. At 2:55 a.m., a man, identified only as a member of the military, was driving westbound on the highway in the number 2 lane (that’s the slow lane) and for unknown reasons, veered across the highway just east of Rotary Way and collided head-on with a big-rig driving eastbound on the highway in the number 2 lane. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was killed in the collision. The driver of the big rig suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. The highway was closed in both directions for about 5 hours. Traffic was being diverted between Watson and Copper Mountain Road, the extension of Rotary way along Sullivan Road to the south of the highway. At one time, drivers were delayed about an hour to get through the detour.
