ONE IN CUSTODY AFTER AN OFF-ROAD VEHICLE EVADES ARREST

Good detective work by two Sheriff’s deputies led to the arrest of a Twentynine Palms man Friday night after he was seen speeding on his off-road vehicle. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Rick Millard, about 8:18, Deputies Ericson Dominick and Shaunna Able saw Alejandro Gomez, 18, driving a quad about 80 miles per hour and without any headlights, on Bagley Avenue in Twentynine Palms, and started a pursuit. Millard said Gomez, who had a male juvenile with him on the quad, abandoned the quad in the desert east of Mesquite Springs Road and south of Raymond Way. The deputies learned the quad was for sale, located a photo of it posted online, and recognized the apartment complex behind it. The deputies went to the 73400 block of Sunnyvale and arrested Alejandro Gomez for investigation of felony failure to yield, booked him at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000. The juvenile with him was cited and released.
