A house fire in Wonder Valley sent one person to the hospital for burns, displaced a family of four, and led to one arrest.
On Friday morning (June 27) at around 4:30 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 5300 block of Jade Ln in Wonder Valley. Deputies told San Bernardino County Fire that a trailer initially caught fire but quickly spread to a nearby house. San Bernardino County Fire responded with a water engine alongside an engine from Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. County Fire said that the house was a total loss.
One person suffered from burns on his leg and was transported by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center. County Fire said that four people were displaced by the loss of the home, and were being served by the Red Cross.
UPDATED 1:20 p.m.: San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies say that Laura Hutchins, a 47 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms was at the property, and became combative with deputies on the scene. They say that she attempted to leave in a vehicle and ran over a deputies foot. The deputy was not injured, and Hutchins was taken into custody.
Laura Hutchins was arrested on suspicion of assault, and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $50,000 bail.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
