A standoff in Twentynine Palms early Monday morning ended with the arrest of a man who bit one of his friends and allegedly threatened to kill several men with a knife. About 3:30 a.m. Monday, Benjamin Breneman, 25, was drinking and rough-housing with friends in the 7600 block of Araby Avenue in Twentynine Palms when they started arguing. One of his friends ran into a bedroom in the house and locked the door, but Breneman broke the door down and bit the man on the chest. The other men say that Breneman made repeated threats to kill them all. One of the men left and returned with his military supervisor. Breneman is a corporal in the Marine Corps Reserves. When the supervisor confronted Breneman, he saw that Breneman had a knife. Breneman allegedly threatened all the men with the knife and chased them all out of the house. When deputies arrived, Breneman locked himself inside; deputies negotiated with him for about 30 minutes before he agreed to come outside to be arrested. Benjamin Breneman was arrested for investigation of assault with a dangerous weapon. He was brought to Hi-Desert Medical Center for a medical evaluation prior to being booked into West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $50,000.
