The Sheriff’s Department has released more information about what is now being called an attempted murder shooting during a burglary in Yucca Valley last week. Investigators say a man–whose name was not released by the Sheriff’s Department, was walking past a residence in the 5900 block of Avalon Avenue about 2:40 p.m. Monday, December 14, when he saw an unfamiliar vehicle parked in a neighbor’s driveway. The man went to investigate and two men came out of the house. As the man was calling police, the suspects told him to put the phone down, and when he didn’t, one of the suspects pointed a handgun at him and fired, and then fled in a white Scion TC. The witness was not hit by the gunfire. The investigation led deputies to the 66900 block of Joshua Court in Desert Hot Springs about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, where they found Elijah Long, 19. Elijah Long was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the shooting of the burglary witness, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $1 million. Deputies are still searching for Long’s accomplice in the burglary and shooting. Anyone with information should contact Detective Corey Emon at 760-366-4175. The Sheriff’s Department believes the accomplice is armed and dangerous, and cautions residents against approaching him.
