A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Thursday following a high-speed pursuit through Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley. According to the California Highway Patrol, an officer attempted to stop a white 2001 Toyota Sequoia for having an expired vehicle registration just after 5 p.m. near Copper Mountain Road and Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms. The driver, later identified as Bobby Trivett, 59, failed to stop and led officers on a pursuit through Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley. Trivett is accused of driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, driving recklessly and endangering the safety of other motorists and pedestrians. During the pursuit, the right front tire of the Sequoia blew out, but Trivett continued to flee while driving on the rim until he stopped in the 3500 block of Kern Road. CHP officers, with the assistance of Sheriff’s deputies, made a felony traffic stop of the vehicle and Trivett was detained at gunpoint.
Bobby Trivett was arrested for investigation of felony evading, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000. During a records check, officers learned that the Toyota Sequoia was involved in a pursuit on March 26, that began in Riverside County and led officers through Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Twentynine Palms before the pursuit was ended in the interest of public safety. At that time, the Sequoia was green; since then, the driver had painted the vehicle white in an attempt to avoid detection.
