ONE ARREST AFTER GUNPOINT KIDNAPPING IN LANDERS

An Indio man was arrested Friday evening after he kidnapped his girlfriend at gunpoint. Sheriff’s say about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jerry Colvin, 46, refused to allow his 46-year-old girlfriend leave her home in the 58000 block of Barter Road in Landers. The woman called a male friend for help, when he arrived with two other friends, Colvin brandished a rifle at them, and forced his girlfriend into her vehicle at gunpoint. Deputies located the vehicle at State Route 247 and Crestview in Yucca Valley, shut down 247 shortly before 8 p.m. to make the high-risk traffic stop, and took Colvin into custody. His girlfriend, while frightened, was uninjured. Jerry Colvin was arrested for investigation of kidnapping, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with bail set at $250,000. Additional charges of assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm will be requested through the District Attorney’s office.
