ONE ARREST AFTER A MORONGO VALLEY BURGLARY

A Morongo Valley man was arrested late Monday night after a neighbor saw him burglarizing a home. According to a Sheriff’s report, about noon on Monday, a neighbor in the 11600 block of Rosewood Avenue in Morongo Valley saw a man, later identified as Anthony Canales, 57, climbing over a fence carrying a green bag. The report states the neighbor thought Canales was stealing from him, and demanded to see what was in the bag. When Canales showed him the contents of the bag, he saw two pairs of cowboy boots. When the owner of the residence returned home, she discovered a burglar had forced entrance into her home, and that the suspect had stolen clocks, antiques, clothing, and her husband’s cowboy boots and had left his shoes behind in their place. After an investigation, the deputy contacted Canales, and during a probation compliance check, discovered the green bag and boots inside Canales’ home. Anthony Canales was arrested for suspicion of burglary and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $75,000. In addition, he is being held on two warrants from Riverside County for possession of narcotics.
