The Old Timer of the Year program was created to honor early or long-time residents who contributed significantly to the development or betterment of the Twentynine Palms community. The program is intended to honor "everyday heroes" whose contributions and efforts over the years have largely gone unsung. Reporter Rebecca Havely has the details about Saturday’s Old Timers Gathering at the Old Schoolhouse Museum…
One of the treasured local traditions of the Twentynine Palms Pioneer Days is the Old Timers’ Gathering. Don Bolster, who was named Old Timer of the Year for 2018, will be the guest of honor this year, along with parade grand marshals Ann Congdon and Kim Ortamond. The Old Timers’ Gathering is for anyone interested in the history of Twentynine Palms who wants to meet some of the earlier residents and share their memories and stories of Twentynine Palms with others. The free event is set for Saturday, October 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse Museum on National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms, and refreshments will be served.
