The Twentynine Palms Historical Society is holding the Old Timers gathering for everyone of any age at the Old School House Museum. Reporter Rebecca Havely has your invitation…
Everyone is invited to the Old Timer’s Gathering, Saturday, October 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. This annual Pioneer Days event was originally billed as an “old-fashioned hand-shaking, back-slapping get-together to reminisce about homesteading and road-building days.” Now, the gathering is for anyone interested in the history of Twentynine Palms. Come meet some of the earlier residents and share their memories and stories. Celebrate the 2016 “Old Timer of the Year” honorees. At 3 p.m. there will be a dedication ceremony for the Pioneer Women sculpture. The program is intended to honor “everyday heroes” whose contributions and efforts over the years have largely gone unsung. Admission is free and snacks and soft drinks will be provided. The Old Schoolhouse Museum is at 6760 National Park Drive. For more information go to 29palmshistorical.com or call 760-367-2366.
