The Twentynine Palms Historical Society is seeking volunteer docents. Docents greet visitors and answer questions. They usually work in pairs and work three hour shifts at The Old Schoolhouse Museum at 6760 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms. Docents also conduct museum tours and ring up cash and credit card sales in the museum’s gift shop. Many docents average two days per month but there’s no minimum or maximum requirement for days a docent volunteers. Historical society membership is not required, but those who are members receive a 10 percent discount in the gift shop, and the quarterly Old Schoolhouse Journal. Docent coordinators provide training. The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
