OLD SCHOOLHOUSE LECTURE: HISTORY OF THE MOJAVE DESERT

The Fall 2019-Spring 2020 Old Schoolhouse Museum Lecture Series begins Friday, September 13, with an historical appreciation of the

Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Center. Executive Director Laura Misajet will speak to the strategic importance of the East Mojave town of Goffs and the regional history that included building of the railroad in 1883 and the rise of the automobile and Route 66. The Center has collected over a thousand oral histories and photographs from the early residents of Lanfair Valley, which is now part of the Mojave National Preserve.

The lecture will be held at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, 6760 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

An optional dinner with the guest speaker will be held prior to the lecture at the 29 Palms Inn. Reservations are limited and attendees are responsible for their own meal. If interested, RSVP at 760-367-5537 before Wednesday, September 11.
