OLD SCHOOL HOUSE LECTURES RESUME VIRTUALLY, TONIGHT, SALT SONGS

The Old Schoolhouse Lecture Series resumes with a virtual event, “The Salt Songs of the Nuwuvi,” on Friday, September 11. Sponsored by the Desert Institute and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, the event will explore the traditions of the Salt Song, an expression of geography used by the Nuwuvi, also known as the Southern Paiute tribe.

Kim Stringfellow, a local artist, writer and educator, will introduce Matt Levias, Sr., a Chemehuevi elder and Salt Song singer who will share his family’s story through song.

The virtual lecture will begin at 7 pm. Cost is $6.24 per person. To register, visit http://www.joshuatree.org/live
