All aboard the Johnson Valley express to old Bavaria and the annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 1. Kids of all ages will enjoy exploring the model train exhibits and garden railway during the afternoon. Adults will want to stop at the beer garden which opens at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Valley Community Center and will serve German Oktoberfest or domestic beers, German wine, plus soda and bottled water. Enjoy big, fresh-from-the-oven Bavarian pretzels free with your brew. More information is at johnsonvalley.com. Tickets are $7 per person in advance, and $10 at the event. Admission includes German dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and includes grilled brats, sauerkraut, German potatoes, Brussels sprouts, plus German chocolate cake and a dessert bar. Diners will also receive a souvenir T-shirt, pub glass, and chance to win prizes. The Johnson Valley Community Center is on Quailbush Rd. From Highway 247 turn west on Larrea between mile markers 21 and 22, then left on Quailbush.
