OHV ENFORCEMENT OPERATION NETS FOUR TICKETS, 24 WARNINGS

January 2 and 3, a multi-agency Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement operation took place throughout the Morongo Basin. The operation involved County Sheriff’s and Code Enforcement Officers. They targeted areas where high volumes of complaints about off highway vehicle activity have recently originated. The operation focused on the Yucca Mesa, Landers, Sunfair Dry Lakebed, Sunfair Heights, Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley areas. Sheriff’s Sergeant Rick Millard said during the two-day, 20-hour operation, deputies responded to a total of four reports of illegal OHV use. One call resulted in two riders being cited for riding on a roadway. Officers made about 150 contacts with OHV riders. A total of four citations were issued for operating an OHV on the roadway; 24 warnings were issued for violations including registration and camping on private property. Two juveniles were warned for riding double on an OHV, and 65 riders and their OHVs were found to be in compliance with vehicle, penal and county codes.
