The observatory dome at Joshua Springs will be coming off today, on its way to Twentynine Palms. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us where it is going….
Today’s the day a crane will lift the observatory dome off Joshua Springs Christian School gym in Yucca Valley and prepare for transport to Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center in Twentynine Palms. The 15-foot diameter operable fiberglass dome is a gift to Sky’s The Limit from the school. Once in place, it will house a 14-inch telescope donated by Celestron. A grant from the County Board of Supervisors funded construction of the observatory building. Art Parker of Twentynine Palms is providing crane services, and volunteers are covering the labor to disassemble and transport the dome. Sky’s The Limit is an all-volunteer affiliate of the Basin Wide Foundation. Its mission is to facilitate hands-on experience for learning about the desert, earth, and sky.
