We were camping at Jumbo Rocks in Joshua Tree National Park earlier this week, and read a notice that the visitor center in Twentynine Palms is temporarily in smaller quarters. Ranger Pam Tripp explains what’s going on…
Joshua Tree National Park is currently addressing the design and construction of seismic safety improvements at the Oasis of Mara Visitors Center. The seismic upgrades will increase the ability of protecting the health and safety of both the visiting public and employees who use this facility. The project began January 5th 2015 and is anticipated to be complete by May of 2015. In preparation for the seismic refit, the visitor center has moved to a new location on the Headquarters complex, into a small modular trailer. Our book store products are still being offered and sold in this temporary visitor center and staff are available to give maps and answer any questions you may have about a visit into the park. We thank you for your patience as safety improvements continue for the next few months. If you have questions regarding the project please contact the Chief of Maintenance, Kirk Diamond, at 760-367-5680
