Oasis Elementary School was briefly placed into emergency lockdown yesterday (March 2) after a student brought a gun to the school. At approximately 10 a.m., Oasis Elementary administrators retrieved a backpack that contained an unloaded 9mm handgun. The school was immediately put into lockdown.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was notified and responded swiftly, working alongside school officials. The Sheriff’s department is now in possession of the unloaded weapon.
The lockdown lasted 20 minutes and all students and staff are safe. Following the lockdown, all activities resumed, and students were released from school at their normal time. Although the lockdown was lifted, the Sheriff Department’s investigation is ongoing.
The student, a 12-year-old male resident of Cathedral City and student in Twentynine Palms, was arrested for investigation of possessing a firearm on school grounds.
