“NUNSET BOULEVARD” OPENS FRIDAY AT THEATRE 29

Opening night for “Nunset Boulevard,” the latest in the blockbuster “Nunsense” franchise of musical comedies, is this Friday at Theatre 29, and is sponsored by the Twentynine Palms Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. For the opening night performance only, the doors open at 6 p.m. with light hors d’oeuvres, with a silent auction during intermission. “Nunset Boulevard” follows the latest exploits of the Little Sisters of Hoboken, who have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. They are thrilled at the prospect until they arrive and realize that they are actually booked into the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama, a bowling alley with a cabaret lounge, and not the famed ‘Bowl’ they were imagining. Assignment reporter Sara Snyder says this show is not to be missed…
While contending with announcements over the bowling alley’s PA system, the Little Sisters of Hoboken learn that auditions are being held across the street for roles in a movie musical about the life a famous movie star who became a nun. The Sisters, thinking they are naturals for parts, race off to audition during their show’s intermission. The intrepid band of dancing and singing nuns are played by Marty Neider, Gloria Garner, Char Childs, Pamela Crane, Mandi Pushkar, Katie VanSumeren, Amanda Winters and Jasmine Shaffer. Kathryn Ferguson directs. “Nunset Boulevard” plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. beginning April 25 through May 24, with two Sunday matinees May 4 and 18 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for opening night only are $20 and are available at Tom’s Cards in Twentynine Palms or from Mary Reeves, 760-625-5335. Tickets for the rest of the performances are $8 to $12 and are available online at www.theatre29.org, or by calling the box office at 760-361-4151. Theatre 29 is located at 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.
