The Joshua Tree National Park Association has announced a call for nominations for the 21st annual Minerva Hoyt California Desert Conservation Award.
The Minerva Hoyt Award recognizes individuals and organizations who have made significant and lasting contributions to the preserving and protecting the deserts. The award is named for Minerva Hamilton Hoyt, who led the campaign to convince the United States Congress and President Franklin Roosevelt to create Joshua Tree National Monument in 1936. The award goes to people or organizations who have advocated for legislative action, advanced research, fostered conservation partnerships or created stronger public stewardship related to the California desert.
Nominees must be over 18 years old, must not be affiliated with anyone who works at the Joshua Tree National Park Association, and are not required to be a California resident.

Nominations must be received by June 16. The winner of the Minerva Hoyt Award will be announced in June. Award winners will be announced on August 1.
