The Noah Purifoy Outdoor Museum of Assemblage Sculpture is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. Dedicated volunteers keep the pieces maintained and the Noah Purifoy Foundation even has plans for the future. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
Even as restaurants, museum and venues shut down due to concerns around COVID-19, the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Museum of Assemblage Sculpture remains open to visitors though masks and social distancing are required. With over 100 sculptures spread out over 10 acres, the Museum is free of charge and without a fence, as only Purifoy—who passed in 2004—would have it.
In November, volunteers worked at the Museum to restore, repaint and replace several pieces that had become weathered, aged or vandalized.
In 2021, volunteers and members of the Noah Purifoy Foundation will be researching several developments for the Museum, such as installing identifying placards for each art piece. They will also discuss adding the Brewer House as an adjunct space, expanding the Urban Arts program, and hiring an assistant for Pat Brunty, the caretaker.
The Museum is located at 62975 Blair Lane in Joshua Tree.
