A 22-year-old woman escaped serious injuries when her car crashed head-on into a telephone pole on Highway 62 Thursday morning. According to the CHP, Kiana Velasquez, of Banning, was driving a 2008 Honda Accord westbound on the highway in the number 2 lane. As she approached Cascade Avenue at about 8:10 a.m., Velasquez fell asleep at the wheel and the car drifted onto the dirt shoulder. The car struck a telephone pole, continued west, and struck a second pole before coming to rest against the second pole. Kiana Velasquez was wearing her seatbelt and refused medical treatment at the scene.
