NEXT WEEK’S COUNT OF LOCAL HOMELESS NEEDS YOUR HELP

Next Week, the annual census of homeless people, known as the Point-in-Time Count, takes place in our communities and throughout the United States. Local volunteers are needed to ensure we get our fair share of funding for homeless programs. The 2020 Point-in-Time Count takes place from 6 to 10 a.m. Thursday, January 23. The results will be used in a variety of ways, including to help determine where county funds and other resources will be allocated. Locally, the count is conducted by volunteers in every community in the Morongo Basin. Working in pairs or small groups, volunteers will visit locations where homeless people live and spend time in order to count individuals, conduct brief surveys, and distribute convenience items and other essentials. The Point-in-Time count is organized locally by Morongo Basin Haven, an online resource for area homeless people. For more information or to volunteer, call Wayne Hamilton at 760-401-0375.
