Copper Mountain College has a new coach for its women’s basketball team. Ken Simonds joins the Fighting Cacti after a five-year stint as the assistant men’s basketball coach at College of the Desert in Palm Desert. Prior to coaching at COD, Simonds was the head boys coach at Palm Valley High School in Rancho Mirage, where the team made eight playoff appearances during his nine years at the school. Simonds helped guide COD to a playoff appearance in the 2014-2015 season, their first appearance in seven years.
Simonds is excited to start this next chapter of his coaching career. “I have been around community college basketball for the last five years and I have never seen a community so excited for their local team. I have had a chance to experience it in my short time at the school. It is exciting to be part of a program that is supported by the administration, faculty, and community. Go Cacti.”
There was no explanation of why Hosie Ward, who coached the inaugural season of women’s basketball at Copper Mountain College, did not return for the 2018-19 season.
