Less than half of the state’s public school students passed new Common Core-aligned statewide tests. In San Bernardino County, the numbers were even lower. Fewer than half of San Bernardino County students met or exceeded state learning standards in English, while a little more than a quarter achieved the same levels in math, new test results show. Scores on the first-ever California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress released Wednesday show how students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 did on English and math exams taken last spring. Statewide, 44 percent of students hit the top two tiers in English and one-third scored at those levels in math. San Bernardino County schools did worse; 37 percent of students met or exceeded the state standard in English, while 25 percent did the same in math.
