Some new laws concerning pets will be in effect in California after the ball drops January 1, 2018. Reporter Tanisha Cureton gives the details…
Strange as it may seem, some people knowingly—or unknowingly—rent or lease dogs or cats. A new law will invalidate such contracts, and the person who is in possession of the animal as of January 1 will be granted ownership of the animal.
Residents in NEW housing developments will now be allowed to own one or more common household pets IF the state of California provided financing for the housing project.
And starting in January 2019, all California pet stores will be required to sell only rescue animals from shelters or adoption centers. Stores can be fined $500 for each animal that is not a rescue.
