A new show at the 29 Palms Art Gallery opens April 3. The show features the plein air paintings of Warner V. Graves III of Cathedral City and mixed media works by Khrysso Heart LeFey of Morongo Valley, along with works by members of the 29 Palms Artists’ Guild. An opening reception will be held Saturday on the gallery’s patio from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The plein air paintings of Warner Graves were created during the early months of the Covid pandemic. Many of the grouped paintings are small pieces assembled to create a larger image, presenting a series of visions of the same desert location that may retain the color and tone but reflect the passage of time in shifting shadows and light.

LeFey’s work in this show, Repurposed Pulp: Arrangement in Linear Design, features bold and intense colors, patterns, textures, and are dependent on straight-line cuts. His pieces are not limited to paper but include mixed-media materials and are inspired by piecework media, such as stained glass, mosaic, and quilting.

The exhibition will be on display through April 25.

Regular hours at 29 Palms Art Gallery & Gift Shop are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, located at 74055 Cottonwood Drive at the corner of National Park Drive, in Twentynine Palms.

In an effort to remain Covid-compliant, facial coverings are required, social distancing will be practiced, and entrance into the gallery may be staggered to avoid overcrowding.
