18-home development proposed for Joshua Tree holding first “scoping meeting” tonight (4/30) at Community Center
The scoping meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Joshua Tree Community Center, located at 6171 Sunburst Avenue.
A proposed project for a 46.25-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Alta Loma Drive and Alta Avenue has been posted to the San Bernardino County Land Use Services website. It also serves as a notice of preparation of a draft environmental impact review (EIR) and a public scoping meeting.
The project site is currently undeveloped desert and is zoned for Rural Living (RL), which has a minimum lot size of 2.5 acres. The project would subdivide the 46.75-acre site into 18 individual parcels, each of which would be developed with a single-family residential home. The lots would range from 2.5 to 2.99 acres each, and the homes planned for the parcels would range from 3,297 to 4,144 square feet. The notice says that each home will include associated site improvements such as private driveways, landscaped areas, and a swimming pool.
The project is also said to incorporate a full range of site improvements necessary to support the proposed residential development. These improvements include new internal streets, private and guest parking areas, utility and drainage infrastructure, and landscaped areas designed to “provide visual relief.”
There will be two separate entrance and exit roads onto Alta Loma and the property will sit behind a low-entry wall at the entrance to the development to “provide visual identity.”
The parcel sits about 2.5 miles west of the LoveMore Ranch project, which is a 64 home development planned for an 18-acre single family residential zoned lot off Alta Loma and Hillview.
Public comment period ends May 20
The public review period of the project opened on April 20 and runs until May 20, 2026.

The County will hold a scoping meeting for the Project to receive comments on the scope and content of the EIR. The public is welcome to attend the scoping meeting and present environmental information that you believe should be considered in the EIR.
