NEW LEGISLATION COULD TRANSFER OWNERSHIP OF BLM LAND TO TWENTYNINE PALMS

Through recently proposed legislation, The City of Twentynine Palms, as well as three other California cities and towns, could be transferred ownership of a total of 8,200 acres of land currently owned by the Bureau of Land Management. The Desert Community Lands Act (H.R. 5355), proposed by U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte Thursday (September 23), would authorize the no-cost transfer of ownership (conveyance) of 8,200 acres of District 8 lands from the BLM to the landlocked Town of Apple Valley and Cities of Twentynine Palms, Barstow, and Victorville. If passed, the City of Twentynine Palms would receive approximately 80 surface acres of land east of the city to allow for more publicly-accessible race events at the Twentynine Palms Motorsports Arena.
