NEW LAWS TAKE EFFECT JANUARY 1

More than 900 new state laws took effect in 2015. Here are highlights from just a few of them that took effect as of yesterday:
Restaurants must allow dogs on outdoor patios, as long as there is a separate patio entrance and the dogs are kept on a leash.
Undocumented workers in California can now obtain a driver’s license, called an AB60 license after the bill, and employers can not discriminate against someone because they have a an AB60 driver’s license.
Colleges must adopt policies against sexual assault that require the consent of both participants.
The state will now start regulating the use of ground water and require water agencies to develop sustainable groundwater management plans.
Teens will face increased penalties and receive fewer privacy protections if convicted of sex acts on someone who is passed out from drugs or alcohol or incapable of giving consent due to a disability.
