NEW LAWS AFFECTING CALIFORNIA DRIVERS SET TO TAKE EFFECT JANUARY 1

Some new laws set to take effect January 1 will affect California drivers. Drivers will no longer be allowed to wear a headset or earphones that covers both ears, or have earplugs in both ears, while driving a motor vehicle or a bicycle. Electrically motorized boards will also be regulated and restricted as of January 1. It will be a crime to operate an electrically motorized board while under the influence of drugs or alcohol; operators must be 16 or older, operators must wear a safety helmet and safety gear to increase visibility at night; and boards can only be used on roads with speed limits set at 35 miles per hour or slower.
