NEW ACTING JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK SUPERINTENDENT NAMED

The Acting Superintendent of Joshua Tree National Park Andrea Compton is going back to her regular assignment as the Park’s Chief Resource Officer. She provided Z107.7 with a copy of a note she sent her staff, introducing them to her temporary successor. Todd Suess will be the next acting superintendent of Joshua Tree National Park starting July 14 (he will serve for the next 120 days or until a permanent superintendent is selected by the regional office). Todd Suess is currently Deputy Superintendent at Olympic National Park.
Todd Suess started his land management profession as he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, with a major in Resource and Recreation Management and a minor in forestry. In the National Park Service, he started as an interpretive ranger at Lincoln Home National Historic Site and Mammoth Cave National Park. He then moved into the resources management field working at Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Dinosaur National Monument. After 5 years with the Bureau of Land Management, he returned to the NPS as a resource management specialist at Pipestone National Monument and then as Chief of Resources at Devils Tower National Monument. He was superintendent at Jewel Cave National Monument for nine years. In 2010 he moved to Olympic National Park as Deputy Superintendent, where he was interim Acting Superintendent after Spring 2012.
