A new fire engine is making its way to Joshua Tree. Last week, Assistant Chief Tuttle and County Fire staff completed a final inspection on new Engine 36, housed in Joshua Tree. Staff went over every inch of the new Kovatch Mechanical Equipment (KME) Severe Service Type I engine to ensure the apparatus was up to specification. The new 2022 Engine was purchased utilizing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. The new apparatus will replace a 2010 apparatus which will be moved to “reserve” status.
“San Bernardino County Fire District is committed to providing premier Fire, Rescue and EMS services while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Through grant funding, County Fire was able to purchase this new fire engine with the latest technology and safety features. We look forward to seeing it serve the residents and visitors of Joshua Tree” according to Assistant Chief Tuttle, who oversees Fire / EMS for San Bernardino County in the Morongo Basin.
The new engine is capable of pumping 1500 gallons (GPM), holds 500 gallons of water, and has a full equipment complement to support County Fire’s all-risk service delivery. The new engine (one of five Countywide) will be delivered in the near future to County Fire’s shop in San Bernardino. Once there, the apparatus will get radios, equipment mounted and decals installed prior to being placed into service.
