NEW EMPLOYMENT LAWS COMING IN 2022

As of Jan. 1, California’s minimum wage will increase to $15 per hour or $14 per hour, depending on the number of workers at a given business.

Assembly Bill 1066, changes overtime rules for agricultural field workers. Employers with 26 or more workers will be required to pay overtime after over eight hours a day, double-time after 12 hours per workday.

SB 639: The minimum wage requirement for disabled workers also will change on Jan. 1 with no special licenses granted to companies receiving those concessions to pay less.

SB 606: On the workplace safety front, a new law going will affect companies with multiple locations. Cal/OSHA can cite companies for violations that occur at one location but apply it all of a company’s locations

Assembly Bill 1033: Includes caring for a worker’s parents-in-law in addition to their own parents to the list of eligible reasons to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave.

Assembly Bill 1003: Makes the intentional theft of wages, including gratuities, benefits or compensation punishable as grand theft. Independent contractors also are considered employees.
