NEW CONDOR FIELD / WORLD WAR II EXHIBIT AT OLD SCHOOLHOUSE MUSEUM

Along with the dedication of the new Founder’s Hall at the Old Schoolhouse Museum this weekend, the Museum Board of Directors unveiled an exhibit on Condor Field and 29 Palms during World War II. The Second World War was a pivotal time for the people and town of Twentynine Palms. This history not only includes the many pioneer families that served during the War, but also the 29 Palms Air Academy at Condor Field where many glider pilots completed primary training in preparation for major combat operations of the War. Condor Field later became a primary powered flight training field and then a Naval Auxiliary Air Station. This initial military training activity provided the footprint for the future Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. This exhibit commemorates the activities at Condor Field and the contribution of many 29 Palms residents during this part of our history. This project was “spearheaded” by Jim Krushat and his efforts, combined with the outstanding talents of Dana Bowden, allowed the Museum Board to have the exhibit ready for the Old Timers Gathering this last Saturday.
