NEW BURRTEC TRASH TRANSFER AND MAINTENANCE YARD APPROVED IN YUCCA VALLEY

Commissioners Vickie Bridenstine and Jeff Drozd absent, the remaining three members of the Yucca Valley Planning Commission selected their new chair and vice chair at their meeting last night. Taking over as chair is Steve Whitten; vice chair is Jeff Evans. Managing editor Tami Roleff says Whitten, Evans, and Charles McHenry were enthusiastic about the new Burrtec transfer facility project…
With a request from a resident to “fast track” the project, the Yucca Valley Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit and environmental assessment last night for a new Burrtec transfer facility on 40 acres at Sunnyslope Drive and Indio Avenue. Commissioners said the new location was better than the current location of the hauling yard on Buena Vista and Old Woman Springs Road. The project received permits to receive 500 tons of trash per day, although only 150 to 180 tons per day are expected. The commissioners were reassured that state regulations concerning the transfer station are extremely strict, and include monthly inspections that govern the removal of any windblown litter. For the most part, the truck schedules will not coincide with the bus schedules of nearby schools. Burrtec will pave Sunnyslope and Indio around the project site, and install curbs, gutters, and sidewalks too. The trash trucks will enter and leave the facility via Sunnyslope from La Contenta. The new facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
