Imagine being a kid and riding your pony eight miles to a one-room schoolhouse while a Western movie set is built in your neighborhood. That is the life described by memoir author, Susan Lang, in her new book, “Running Barefoot.” Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …
In the 1940s, Susan Lang grew up in a homestead cabin near Pioneertown, before, during, and after a group of Hollywood cowboys created what we know now as the small town and famous Western movie set still in use. Already the author of five novels, Lang mined the rich memory gems from her Pioneertown childhood to pen “Running Barefoot” which was published last June.
Lang will read from her memoir and give an interactive lecture on Friday, October 4 from 7 to 8 pm. This free event will be held at the Black Rock Visitor Center, 9800 Black Rock Canyon in Yucca Valley. For more info, call the Desert Institute at 760-367-5539 or visit www.joshuatree.org.
