Positions were shifted at last night’s (February 16) meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors. Reporter Jef Harmatz brings you a full rundown of the meeting.
At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, the board voted to appoint Director Kristina Gorke as president, and Director Shawna Johnson as Vice President. The board also discussed the need for a more permanent organizational structure for the fire department, but expressed their enthusiasm for interim General Manager and Fire Chief Jim Brakebill, extending his contract for another six months. The board continued their conversation about separating the General Manager and Fire Chief roles into two distinct positions, but, with the support of the fire fighter’s local union, the unified position will continue and be overseen by the Fire Services Ad Hoc Committee until more permanent changes are implemented. Finally, the board received reports from a financial auditor and LAFCO, which oversees service districts for San Bernardino County, both of whom said that, because the Morongo Valley CSD runs on a tight budget, the board should pursue further funding options.
