The Morongo Unified School District has partnered with The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office to announce a new diversion program for minors who have committed infractions. The Morongo Unified Restorative Youth Court Program (MURYC) is designed for minors between the ages of 12-17 years old who commit misdemeanors and/or infractions and who have no prior court or disciplinary record.
For more information on the program, contact Deputy Michael Sellers at 760-366-4175
The Morongo Unified Restorative Youth Court Program provide a forum for students who admit to violating the California Education/Penal Code to explain their involvement in the incident, be judged by a jury of their peers, and offer them an opportunity to make amends. Student volunteers act as clerk, bailiffs, attorneys, and jurors who listen to the facts of the cases, deliberate, and sentence the respondent to jury duties, community service, counseling, or anger management classes. Once a student’s disposition has been successfully completed, their expulsion, citation, suspension or other referral will be terminated. Participation by all parties is voluntary.
