The Nevada National Security Site, known as the Nevada Test Site until August 23, 2010, is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada. The United States Government conducted 100 atmospheric atomic weaponry tests from 1951 to 1958 and another 921 underground tests into the 1990s. Radioactive fallout from the government’s nuclear test program has created an ongoing legacy of death and chronic illness that continues to this day. Join Kim Stringfellow, artist, educator, writer, and independent curator based in Joshua Tree, for this in-person lecture series at the 29 Palms Historical Society, 6760 National Park Drive, on Friday, January 14 at 7 pm.
