NEIGHBORS REPLACE STOLEN FAMILY TREASURE

Two Desert Heights neighbors were so upset that a metal raven sculpture had been stolen from the Twentynine Palms site where it stood for nearly three decades that they decided they had to replace it. Frank Santiago sketched a raven, added a few touches of his own, and along with Hugh Hodson, welded it onto its steel post at the corner of Indian Trail and Hillcrest Tuesday afternoon. Vickie Waite, whose late husband Terry Waite had created and installed the original raven sculpture, said it is a fine replacement, adding, “These guys definitely get the good deed award of the week. That is true community spirit and another reason why we love Twentynine Palms.”
