The roar and smell of escaping natural gas with no warning, but this time not in Porter Ranch, it is in Wonder Valley. Reporter David Haldane said residents east of Twentynine Palms can expect more…
A loud roar accompanied by a dirty plume jetting into the sky. That’s how residents of Wonder Valley described the mysterious phenomenon that interrupted their breakfasts last Friday morning. When the plume started smelling like gas, well, several were alarmed enough to call 911.
Enter So Cal Gas, which later admitted that it all came from a pipeline a mile east of Shadow Mountain and Pipeline Road vented in advance of scheduled maintenance and inspection.
The bad news is that it will happen three more times this week. But each emission will last only 15 minutes, the company insists, and this time area resident will be warned by letters hand delivered in advance.
In a statement released to Z1077, a company spokesman said the planned venting would pose no danger to public health or safety which, he was quick to add, is the company’ number-one priority.
